Why do you want to be an MSYP?

I want to be an MSYP because I don’t think young people should only be asked what they think after decisions have already been made. I want us to have a say from the beginning. I’m interested in mental health and the pressure young people can feel at school. I’ve seen friends struggle to get support or feel like adults don’t understand what things are actually like for us. As an MSYP, I would listen to young people with lots of different experiences and take their ideas and concerns to the people who can make a difference. I also want young people to know what happened after they shared their views, even if the answer isn’t always what we hoped for.

Why should someone vote for you?

You should vote for me because I’m a good listener and I’m not afraid to speak up when something is unfair.Being an MSYP is about representing other young people, not just promoting my own opinions. I will try to find out what matters to you and make sure your experiences are included.I’m organised, approachable and determined. If you tell me about an issue, I will take it seriously, find out what can be done and keep you updated.I want young people to feel that their MSYP is someone they can actually talk to, rather than just someone whose name they saw at election time.

Pick the top three issues you want to campaign on as an MSYP

Health and wellbeing, Education, Equalities

How will you consult the young people in your area or organisation to ensure they are represented well and their voices are heard?

I would use different ways of consulting because not everyone feels comfortable speaking in a meeting. I would use short online surveys and polls, visit schools and youth groups, and hold informal drop-in sessions where people could talk to me. I would make sure there were anonymous ways to share views, especially about personal topics like mental health. I would also try to hear from young people who are sometimes left out of consultations, rather than only speaking to people who are already involved in youth groups. Most importantly, I would report back regularly through social media, posters and youth groups so young people know what I have raised on their behalf and what has happened next.
